The Venue Split Calculator

After you play a show, you often owe a percentage of your merchandise revenues to the venue (the "venue cut"). Nightly merch settlements are notoriously tricky, especially when factoring in tips, taxes, and different payment methods. BandMath's Venue Split Calculator takes all the pain out of this process.

1. Setting the Time Box

The first step is to set a time box for the show. BandMath will automatically tally up the total revenue generated through the POS within that specific timeframe.

By default, the app assumes you are settling up immediately after the show—it automatically sets the End Time to right now, and the Start Time to 12 hours ago. If you need to make adjustments (for example, if you are calculating a split for a show you played yesterday), you can easily change the timeframe by tapping directly on the Start/End Time box.

2. Choosing Gross vs. Net

Once the total revenue is tallied, you can choose whether the venue takes their cut from Gross or Net sales:

  • If you choose Net, BandMath will automatically subtract out any tips collected and the taxes you owe before applying the venue's percentage.
  • Next, simply punch in the percentage that you owe to the venue.

3. Registering the Payment

After calculating the exact amount owed to the venue, you need to tell BandMath how that money was paid out.

  • The Cash Box: If you handed the venue physical cash right out of the merch till, tap Cash Box.
  • The Band Bank: If you initiated a digital payment or wire transfer directly from the band's shared checking account, tap Band Bank.
  • An Individual Member: If one particular member pays the venue directly (whether with cash from their own pocket or a personal digital transfer), tap that member's name.

When you hit Register Payment, BandMath automatically logs the venue cut as an Expense. The system records exactly who paid it out (the Cash Box, the Band Bank, or an individual member) and correctly debits the cost across all of the active band members, perfectly balancing the ledger without any manual math.
